Blender has been around for along time now and has evolved a bunch since its beginnings. It is now a powerful 3D modeling software along with powerful render and animation capacities. The good news is: it's completely FREE. Plus there are tons of fan-made addons to help make your life easier while modeling, texturing, rendering, animating and etc. As far as I know, it is updated regularly to keep bugs away so that makes it nice as well. The interface might scare you with its 1000 menus and sub-menus but thing is, it's probably easier then 3D Max or Maya. And more importantly, it's FREE! There are tons of tutorials out there to teach beginners and advanced users how to use the program or the new features included in the update. Blender also includes a very complete Wiki User Guide to enlighten any of your questions.
Why should I use and learn Blender?
SCS, developers of the American Truck Simulator game and many other trucking games decided to use Blender to create a set of tools allowing people like you and me to bring stuff into their game. It is called Blender Tools. I'm not only talking about trucks, but also trailers, interiors, map prefabs (loading docks, road intersections, etc.), map models, animated models, you name it. And they also made a Wiki Guide to show people how to use and install this Blender addon. Yet, there are some other software, not as powerful nor as stable as Blender that can make you achieve your goal of seeing your work in game. Some people use it and are happy with it, but they also pay a monthly license for this product which does not have as much versatility as Blender Tools.
Where do I get started?
Below are links to the Blender Foundation where you'll find the basic Blender software, and to the SCS Wiki where you'll find Blender Tools as well as instructions on how to install and use it. Keep updated on the lastest versions of both Blender and Blender Tools addon for best results. Since Blender Tools is developed by SCS itself, updates to this addon won't come long after any relevant game update. Keep updated on here too for In-House tutorials and tips & tricks on how to use this software.
